Stars in the Snow Little Quilt ~
Whatcha Working on Wednesday?

I have envisioned the hallway of our small home lined with little quilts ever since I picked up my first Little Quilts book ~ "Living with Little Quilts". It is a delightful book showing how to make and use little quilts to warm and decorate your home. (Psst ... you'd really like this one, Nancy Jo!)

When we lived in Georgia, I was so fortunate to live very close the Little Quilts Shoppe and was always inspired. The ladies there were so kind and helpful, but somehow I never did get around to making one.

This year, however, my goal is to create at least four little quilts for my hallway ~ possibly one to represent each of the four seasons. And "Stars in the Snow" is my very first to represent Winter. The book I'm using now, "Little Quilts All Through the House", shows this particular pattern with the stars in red against a white background. It is really pretty, but when I saw this blue fabric sprinkled with snowflakes, I thought it a better choice for me.

Here are my six little 5 inch blocks:

Here it is assembled with a border:

Measures 15" x 19"

While I did hand-piece the entire little quilt, I'm an amateur quilter so they are quite imperfect. I realize now that I pressed some of the seams the wrong way on them so the white shows through a bit. But even in their imperfection, I am quite happy with them ~ especially the way the white contrasts with the blue.

For now I have to put it aside for a few days while I complete 2 quilts blocks of a UFO sampler quilt that I began some years ago. It is an anniversary gift for my mom & dad, and I am so excited about it!

Be sure to stop by Leslie of My Country Home to see what other gals are working on this Wednesday.

Blessings & joy,
Lea

I love this!!!It is beautiful... I look forward to seeing the other seasons---no pressure-LOL.
I have never followered a pattern. I always made it up in my head but they have all been just squares arranged. HAHA. Thank goodness I find other people's work at bargain prices!
Please show the quilt you are making for your parents....

Lea, I love your little quilt. How cool that will be if you do the 4 seasons for your hallway. Quilting is so much work.

I love your little quilt! I am so proud of you for setting a quilting goal for the year - I always do much more quilting when I have a desired goal in mind. Your hall is going to be lovely with all of your handmade creations, and I can't wait to see the quilt you are making for your parents. Have a sweet day!

lEA,
VERY FUNNY LEA. Now I will be needing to see a picture of the hallway. Hey are you ever going to put anything in your esty store again? perhaps that quilt book would be a good way to get started again.

I love the idea of a quilt for each season. The colours look great I think the blue for winter is nice. I always think of red as a hot colour.

You know I have pondered picking up that kraft as well. I have been in the mood to try new and different things this year. I have been crocketing and want to learn to knit as well. I can't tell you how many times I picked up a ready to do it kit for a lap blanket with my 50% off coupon. I should have picked it up! LOL. What a wonderful resolution! I think it looks great!

Your quilt is beautiful Lea! :)

I miss quilting so much. I sincerely hope to make time for it this year.

I typically don't use patterns. I just look at pictures and make quilts from that. Obviously, this doesn't work with more complex designs. I want to learn more about applique as well. Do you do applique?

Nancy Campbell is doing a retreat again here in March. Brooke is 'so' excited to be able to see her again!

Promise to make a blog post when all your quilts are done and hanging in the hall. :)

I just could not get my 53 year old eyes to read the small print in your post today but the quilts look interesting Lea. I am finding blogs with dark backgrounds and fine print harder to read lately even with my glasses. I must really be middle aged! LOL

You are just so sweet Lea. Thank you so much. I am sure I am not the only one who hasthat problem sometimes. I could easily read it!

What a great idea to have a quilt for each season. Each one would become family heirlooms!

Thanks again!! Stay warm! hugs, Linda

I have this book Leah! It is wonderful. I love the look of little quilts and I also love being able to "finish a little quilt" quicker. If you look on my newest post, the photo with the quilt.... that is a little quilt I scaled down from large size. I love this design, especially in smaller form. Always love to come visit here! blessings, Kathleen
