I had carried Colton for 3 months when premature labor began. The doctor ordered complete flat bed rest for the remaining 6 months. During that time, Mom came over every day and stayed until Jeff returned from work. She cared for me and Jase (8) and Luke (3), cooked our meals, kept house and kept me company. (Such an angel!) It was during that trying time that I began to piece these sampler blocks.
I've averaged about .75 blocks per year (don't laugh)! But this year, I have decided that this project needs to be finished, and it will be a gift for Mom and Dad's wedding anniversary. I WILL hand-piece the remaining 3 blocks before spring.
Here are the ones that are completed:
The remaining 3 blocks of this sampler quilt are The Bear Paw, Sunbonnet Sue and Grandmother's Flower Garden which I'm still not certain how to accomplish yet. But I am determined to have it done this year! You girls hold me to that, okay! LOL

I was just stumbling through Blogland and came across your blog. The quilt for your parents will be beautiful. Such hard work to hand piece all of it, too!
What a sweet daughter you are - and how your parents will treasure their quilt! I am piecing (slowly) a grandmothers garden quilt using cardboard templates that I got at Joanns. I will try to find them and send a few in your package. You just do a small running stitch around the edge of your fabric and draw it up around the template. Then you iron it well and remove the reusable cardboard. Clear as mud? :) Thank you for sharing the pictures of your quilt blocks. They are beautiful! Have a wonderful day.

I can tell there has been much work in these blocks but it will be a beautiful quilt and one of the most cherished gifts your mom will ever receive. She will remember when you started!! I must learn to quilt. I want to start with a simple lap size one so I won't feel overwhelmed.

Those are SO gorgeous! I wish I could quilt. Crocheting is about it. I tried a very small store bought quilt kit once and realized very quickly I don't have the patience for quilting. I wish I did though. Quilts are absolutely beautiful. I know your parents will love the quilt you are making.
The quilt pieces look beautiful, I hope you will post pictures of it finished, it is beautiful already. Don't worry I have projects like that too, it is probably a sign we have too much on our plates and those special projects get pushed aside.
