Antique Kitchen Utensils & A Fall Giveaway

A couple of weeks ago I was visiting my friend Sue of Country Pleasures. She has recently moved into a new home and has been sharing her amazing decorating talent with us in her journal. I sure have been enjoying watching her plain, empty rooms transform into the most cozy & pleasant living spaces.

One of things that Sue did in her big ole' country kitchen was to hang antique kitchen tools on the wall. I just loved the result and decided I would dig out some of my old pieces and hang them as well.

And I just love it!

Before:

You can see Colton's little school area below. One day I hope to have a Hoosier cabinet there, but I'm in no hurry for him to grow up!

After:

I kept the cross-stitched piece in the center because my dear traditional sons couldn't bear for me to take it down since it has hung in our kitchen since they were young. Change certainly does not occur easily around the old Blakney place! The green handled pie crimper was a very thoughtful gift from Sue. I'll think of you every time I see it, Sue! Thank you so much.

Across the room I have my antique rolling pins and some vintage aprons. I just adore aprons and wear one every day. There is just something practical and yet romantic about wearing an apron. It makes me feel so connected to my ancestors and their simplicity of life. Guess that's why I enjoy antiques as well.

Look how Sue's old pie crimper matches the green handled roller perfectly.

My only disappointment is that the lack of color in my walls makes everything look washed out. (Sue used Brazilian Flame and its gorgeous!) I have never used color on walls probably because I am so afraid to ruin it. But I am trying to work up the courage to try just one wall or maybe the laundry room where I can close the door if I really make a mess of it. Believe me, no one goes into the laundry room but me!

Make sure to stop by to visit Sue at Country Pleasures. I know you will enjoy browsing through her photos. She has transformed her laundry room into a place I think I could spend some serious time! LOL And right now, Sue is hosting a fun Fall giveaway too. You don't want to miss that!

Blessings,
Lea

Lea,

I love the utensils on the wall! I still very much like that look and it just reminds me of days gone by in an old farmhouse...I just love that atmosphere! And I laughed at your boys being sentimental about the picture! Tonight I was taking pictures in my kitchen because we're planning a redo and I was removing EVERYTHING from the walls and Joy was giving me all these sad faces and grabbed a piece and hugged it and I snapped her picture! I'll have to show it on my blog when I show the pictures of the kitchen! So, whatever we change in there...I'll have to be sure and put some of this stuff back! :)

And I'll tell you what Jason told me years ago about painting...it can always be painted back white! Be bold! Give it a try, if you're wanting color, that is! I'm saying this and just bought a very bold color for my kitchen that I'm having second thoughts about, but we'll see. My sweet hubby again said, it's okay...if you don't like it...we'll paint over it with a color that you do like! So..you just can't beat that!

Have a great weekend, Lea!

It looks great. I love the old utensils, too. Don't be afraid of color. Bold is just the same as white. It all covers up--eventually. Change is good. I, myself, love knotty pine tongue and groove. And beadboard...But I don't see that happening for me. I went with the cranberry in our kitchen and have never regretted it. I thought about it a long time before I did it and changed my mind alot but have never looked back. I love the color...
Thanks for the heads up about Sue's giveaway. She is a neat lady.
Would you like to have a couple of the wood cheese boxes to display your old spice boxes?

Thank you dear Lea for the plug, I'll enter you twice, good luck! Your wall looks GREAT, I"m so proud of you! Now, to get you to take a leap and play with some color, it's only paint, you can change it if you don't like it. But I think you will love it, it just makes a room even more cozy and so cheerful! I love your rolling pins and aprons, I must add to my collection of aprons so I have some to display! Your a doll!

Just lovely! I enjoy Sue's place too, albeit from afar! I'd love to visit in person one day, and your's too!
I love your old tools on the wall and your rolling pins & aprons. And I totally understand your fear of color! Paiting is a big job, and I am always afraid of making a mistake. I can handle painting small things, but the walls? We finally painted our livingroom, and I don't like it! It's a caramel color, but sometimes it looks peachy and I hate that! I wanted a deep, warm gold or mustard and it looks that way at night. It changes color all during the day. But as much as I dislike it at times, it is still better than the offf-white that it was. Painting the room made it feel more complete and intentional, if that makes any sense! LOL!
Have a blessed day!

Hi! Lea,
I love your wall display and the stitchery looks great in the middle. I need to paint our house, too. (still haven't done that since we moved in last year) I've been watching Sue's decorating, getting inspiration, and hopefully some courage to use a little color too.
Have a great weekend!
Hugz,
Cathy
PS - I like your red check curtains :)

I love what you have done in the kitchen and the rolling pin display is my favorite.

I used to be afraid of color on my walls, and now I am hooked. There are so many warm creams and tans and I figure I can always paint over them. Not that I want that expense or extra work though - luckily I have never needed to!

Hi Lea!
I just love the utensils on the wall and your rolling pins and aprons too.
Go ahead a paint, I think you will absolutely love it when you are finished and all your prim things are put against it. I know I have a love/hate relationship with my paint color in my bath and bedroom, like Carolyn's paint it changes color with the light and also what you put against it but it's so much better then white.
Have a great day!

Lea, I love your display of antique kitchen utensils and aprons. And I think it's wonderful that your boys are sentimental. My girls are like that, too. I'm so glad they treasure old things like I do.

Go for the color. When we moved to our city home, I finally got brave enough to try some color, and I really, really like it. I think you will, too.

Have a blessed weekend.

I love your new look. How lucky to have all those old utensils, rolling pins and aprons. Go for the color. I used to be afraid of color, too, but once I did it, I painted color in EVERY room. It creates such warmth. We'll be watching----HEEHEEHEE!! Have a great weekend. Julie

I love it! The utensils make it look like a country home. Beautiful! I have some color on the walls in my dining room, but everywhere else, is the same boring color.
