Beautiful Blooms

These summer days are so busy and I don't get nearly the time I'd like to post and visit. But today I did take some photos of my flowers to share. I can hardly wait to stop by and see all the wonderful things happening in your little corner of the world as well.

We are just beginning our homestead and though we don't have many plantings even a single bloom is just amazing to me. I love walking outdoors every morning to see if anything new has secretly sprung up when I wasn't looking! (Smile)

This little plant was found in the yard by my son, Jase. It was just a tiny green plant but Jase thought it looked special so we brought it to our flower garden where it bloomed one small but sweet flower last year. And look at it this year! It was standing straight up but it bent over the rocks after a heavy rain and then the blooms lifted their heads again to the sun. Isn't it breathtaking? They make me happy!

These daylilies were given to me last year by my sweet neighbor, Ms. Arbie. She was so generous and I planted them at both corners of the house. Even when they are not in bloom, I just love the flow of their green leaves. It reminds me of cascading water and adds such softness to the garden. Every time I look at them, they remind me of the friendship of this very special lady.

This is my little hydrangea bush that my sister & her family gave me last April on my birthday. I do believe this is one of my favorite cottage flowers. Somewhere in the recesses of my mind, I recall a charming old home lined with these gorgeous blooms. I can't quite recall where or when I saw them but thinking about it always makes me feel peaceful. These two little bushes are planted right behind my porch swing. I can't wait until one day they tower up so we can enjoy their beauty as we relax on the porch.

Here is another cottage favorite, the purple coneflower. I love it because it so wild and is the state wildflower of Illinois ~ so dear to my heart. Of course, it can be used medicinally as an immunity booster. Don't you just love how God created all these wonderful plants that are not only beautiful but keep us healthy as well?

Now I realize this photo does not look like much right now but just wait until next spring! My friend, RoseMarie at Sugarplum Cottage, was so kind to share some of her marvelous garden with me. And her garden is truly amazing. Just stop by to visit her for an inspiring garden treat! Well she sent me some bulbs for yellow & white iris, candy amaryllis and red amaryllis. I planted them all around this large oak right near our front porch. I can hardly wait until spring to enjoy their beauty. I am making a little handpainted sign for it, will border it in hand hewn stone and call this my Sugarplum Garden. Thank you so much for sharing Rose!

Today I am thankful for:
21. 6 beautiful brown eggs from a friend
22. Blooms & butterflies
23. The creativity of God
24. His word that brings comfort
25. Colton's sweet, innocent prayers

Blessings & joy,
Lea

Lea, your hydrangea is beautiful. I love that blue. Sugarplum Garden is a sweet name. The first flower you posted is the black-eyed susan which is of the rudbekkia family. They reseed themselves. They are one of my favorites.

Lea, your flowers are beautiful! Like you, I have to check each day to see how my flowers and vegetables are growing. It amazes me to see little shoots from a seed I planted coming out of the ground or tomatoes forming on the buds. What a beautiful world God created for us to enjoy!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Lea - Your flowers are so lovely! I have some daylilies that same color in my yard, and I love them.

I really like your hydrangeas - I think that I may need to plant some of these next year myself.

I am just finishing up a post on the flowers in my yard, as well - should be up by the weekend - please stop by and visit my garden!

Blessings,
Nancy

Love all these, especially the Black Eyed Susans. I've been wanting to plant some of these. I've planted a bunch of perennials, lavender, sweet annie, hummingbird vines....then I had to get a grip. I could just go wild!!

Love your home!!

Lea,
All of your flowers are so pretty! Flowers just simply make me smile too. I still can't hardly walk past wildflowers without picking them and pressing them to keep. Joy and I have plans to make a wildflower notebook and have been collecting! I'm so glad you shared those on your property!

Thanks for the recipe! I actually am going to make it right now. Since my dad brought them home to me, I want to make it before he leaves to go out of town this afternoon, so he can enjoy it. I'm assuming that pint of fruit will be enough for that recipe...but I'm going to give it a shot! Thanks so much! I'll let you know how it turns out!

Have a great weekend, Lea!

I think what everyone else calls hydrangeas are what my mama called snowball bushes. Hmm, I guess they are the same thing. Your flowers are very pretty!

I love them all - but especially the coneflowers. I can't wait until mine bloom. It is such a blessing each year to see what has survived the winter, the critters and time,

Lea,
I love your site and found out about you from an old friend, Nancy at Homemade Blessings. I am new to blogging, but have many of the same interests as you. My URL is listed, but my site is called Joyful Journey Journal. My backyard is a blank slate right now, and I have big plans to plant flowers and a small garden of veggies and fruits when the seasons are right. Hydrangeas are some of my favorites, as are roses (they grow well here in Texas, but take a lot of work). I plan to visit your Blog often.
Here's to new friends,
Kathy

Lea...I just loved the pictures of your blooms! Isn't it just amazing how each flower brings a different emotion? You mentioned that one made you smile, another made you feel peaceful, etc. I feel the same way about plants! My day is not complete if I have not walked through my yards and checked each and every flower, herb, and veggie!! This year I did get a few purple cone flowers and was so excited with them! Hoping I can collect some seeds from them for next year! Thanks for sharing!

Just wonderful!!!! I felt like I was watching them grow. I remember your posts from a while back when you were busy planting, spucing up the yard, the boys were helping etc., etc. Now look at it! I'm always amazed at how a flower can bring such smiles and satisfaction to our souls!!!!! Doesn't take much for me! It can be a weed, but if it has a flower, its BEAUTIFUL! Cora

Oh, Lea!
You have such beautiful flowers and how blessed you are to be so knowledgeable about them. I know close to nothing about flowers. Just a few of the "Southern classics" like hydrangeas (and aren't they beautiful dried?!??!), azaleas, and of course, magnolias.
I don't have a "green thumb" however, so I'll have to peek in your garden to enjoy such beauty!

Thank you for always sharing!
Blessings,
Julie

Those pictures are so pretty, and you have inspired me to plant things in my backyard when the season is right. It's a blank slate right now - just grass and a couple of trees. Thanks for sharing!
