Monday, January 13
I awoke this morning by the beautiful song of a bird on my bedroom windowsill. I couldn't help but think that this must be the most wonderful way to begin a day.
I am thinking....
of how quickly time seems to pass for me these days,
and how I need to cherish every small moment.
I am thankful for....
a warm stove and the pop of bubbling soup on top.
From the kitchen....
its biscuits and gravy for breakfast and split pea soup for supper.
I am wearing....
I quickly pulled on a pair of my son's jogging pants this morning to warm my legs. I like "pretty" so I usually don't wear these things but my practical side won since I'm trying to get my laundry all hung out on the line today.
I did, however, cover them with the prettiest vintage flowery yellow apron trimmed in yellow rick rack ... so I still feel pretty.
I am creating....
Well I am actually finishing up many unfinished projects and trying (oh so hard) to keep my mind from wandering to all the new sewing projects that I want to begin.
Okay ... in all honesty, in a moment of weakness I actually did order all the Sip of Summer fabric for a Chubby Chicks quilt ~ but I plan to begin only after all these others are done, of course!
I am going....
to stay at home this week. So many things today to accomplish that there's no time for running around. I'm getting so spoiled by having Jeffrey & Jase pick up all the things I need while they're in town.
I am reading....
through all my quilting books at night before bed.
I am hoping....
that I can find the balance I need in my life once my classes begin tomorrow. I love learning and feel so blessed for the opportunity to complete my education but I treasure my simple life and realize that I can't put off those joys until another day.
Once gone, those moments can't be recaptured.
I am hearing....
Luke (15) attempting to convince Colton (12) that his life would be completely boring and uneventful if Luke didn't tease him as much as he does. LOL Boys!
Around the house...
The day is promising to be sunny and temperatures might just get to a balmy 50 degrees so I've got three loads of laundry hanging on the line and two more waiting their turn to blow in the breeze.
As well, the tiller repairman is on his way to get my favorite piece of equipment running smoothly. Jeff & I are hoping to expand our small garden this year.
One of my favorite things....
Seed catalogs!
And one of my very favorites is Abundant Life Seed Company. It's like getting a mini lesson in gardening with a summary of each herb and vegetable including when to plant, how to fertilize organically, soil type ... just about everything you need to know to grow successfully. Love it!
A scripture thought....
Genesis 1:11
"And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree...!"
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week....
Putting up more wood for this winter and next, more catching up on my list of things to do, beginning the spring semester, enjoying school with the boys and maybe getting outdoors a bit more as temperatures begin to climb.
Here is picture thought I am sharing...

Hi! Tell me about your Spring Chicks quilt. Is the pattern on line where I can see it? What kind of fabric did you purchase? I need to think spring today. It's cold here in Michigan. What are you studying in school? I'm trying to decide what to do with one in college and one in highschool...
Be blessed today,
Renee
Just reading about your day has lifted my spirits Lea. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Always love reading your Daybook. I am trying to adopt a simplier lifestyle. I give you so much credit for wanting it and going after it.
Love the cookies too. I'm making snowflake cut out tonight for my nephew for his b-day.
Blessings,
Rhonda
I want to make christmas decorations for my tree with primitive material. Stars, angels. I'm nervous, I have sewing machine Momma bought me for Christmas 2 or was it 3yrs ago now? I know I should be ashamed.
I'd love one of those gingerbread men!!
You sound like my Momma, she thinks clothes only belong on the line. She hates a dryer. She says clothes line dried smells best.
Hello Lea,
I enjoyed your daybook entries today. Thanks so much for sharing the link for the seed company. I want to have a huge herb garden this year.
I hope school fits perfectly into your simple life. I'll be praying that it does!
Hugs to you!
Sounds like a wonderful day from start to finish even if it involves laundry. We are having a few warmer days and it does get you to thinking of spring...my Mom has lots of seed catalogs she is looking over in anticipation of her garden.
What a great post. Loved reading your thoughts.
Sounds like a great day. I am always uplifted after I read what you have done and the perspective that you have. Wow!! That's great that you are starting school. High five. I wish you the best :).

Hello,
I just stumbled upon your blog and I am excited to read more; at first glance you seem like a kindred spirit in so many ways. I hope to come back tonight after homeschool and tutoring are done to read more.
Have a lovely day!
In Christ,
Monica
Lea,I loved reading your post today! You always inspire me!Elizabeth
Dear Lea,
I always hang our washing out. It helps we don't have a dryer.
It is one of my favourite things to do.
I love those Gingerbread children they look so cute.
Blessings
Just loved your words...I love seed catalogs also! They are my wish book! The gingerbread cookies are adorable! blessings,Kathleen
I love your post but I almost didn't get back to it when I saw the chubbie chicken quilt and the material. Oh,,I like the summer log cabin they had done as well. I am also determined to get my unfinished project done before starting a new one. The ones stored in a box don't count do they...I store finished squares in a pizza box (unused of course)...you should see when I go into the local pizza place and ask for an unused box...I have to explain it and of course they think I'm crazy but that's most of the fun.
Always great to hear from you. Your spring quilt sounds so cute! I hope you'll post a pic when you are done with it.
Have a great weekend!
so much love in such a small place.....I love reading your simple woman posts. it is 37 here today--january thaw-LOL things look so much prettier covered in snow. must be soup day- I have a pot of loaded baked potato on the stove.
what will you be taking this semester? I am so excited for you to be able to do this.
Much love,
★Linda
ok,,,this quilt has caused quite a stir. I saw all those wonderful fabrics but where is the template for that cute chick?
Oh my goodness! Where have you been all my life? (maybe blogging away) I just found you and think that I won't finish the skirt I'm sewing for someone because I'd rather read your blog! Thanks for sharing your life!

Oh, you must have felt like Cinderella w/the little songbird waking you up, sining outside of your window! '-)
Blessings from Ohio...Kim W<><
Hi LEA,
OK, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A PRETTY APRON ON.
Know what you mean about getting all the started projects done. Just want to move on to something else. I found that if I give them away un-finished it takes a lot of the presure off. But its a real good feeling when you do finish them.
Richard has been busy building me a new craft area, pretty excited about that. Seems I'M GETTING OVER-RUN WITH GLITTER GLUE AND PAPERS AND ETC ETC.And I keep typing in caps.
Stay Happy, its the best choice.

Hi Miss Lea,
Thank you for your email. And just as I came to your blog, Lo and behold every song that you have on your blog is either on my blog or in my iTunes list. I love when God sends you kindred spirits; they're hard to find. Speaking of which, how did you do your kindred spirit box? I tried to do mine and it came out a little more than I expected. When I went to follow your blog - it just popped up. It's neat...I love it!
Have a blessed weekend.
Warmly,
Monica
I love seed catalogs, too- the promise of spring and summer! I have to admit though, when it comes to planning my garden in the middle of January- I always get way too over-ambitious and then I can't follow through on all of my "grand plans" come May!
Darling Gingerbread children! Got a giggle out of you being ahead in preparing them.
Love the January or July Gingerbreadmen.
If you like Abundant Life Seeds for the lessons (I like them too) try Territorial, Stokes and Thompson & Morgan, three more of my favorites for lessony type material.
Happy winter gardening!
