A Simple Woman's Daybook~Day 10

For Today
Monday, November 3

Outside My Window .... another chilly morning. I suppose the mornings will now remain cool until Spring time. The woods are dappled with gold and crimson.

I am thinking....my grandmother, Barbara, and her long gray hair and simple dresses. A beautiful simple woman.

I am thankful for.... living in this marvelous place. God has truly granted the desires of our hearts. Only 5 years ago, we lived in a suburb of Chicago. From our borrowed home, we could see the skyline on a clear day. And though I loved it there because it was home, my husband and I had long desired to live in a place surrounded by God's creation. Through a series of incidents outside of our control, here we are. And everyday I look around still amazed that He has brought us here and fulfilled our dreams.

From the kitchen.... fresh baked cranberry bread with pecans harvest from our own trees. I am so thankful for the homesteaders that lived here many years ago had the foresight to plant these nut trees. I wonder if they knew that someday another family would come along and enjoy the fruits of their labor?

I am wearing.... I am embarrassed to say I am still wearing my white poodle flannel pjs.

I am creating.... still my redwork Bible quilt. I think I'll have my first embroidered block finished today ~ Adam & Eve in the garden. I just have a few background trees to stitch.

I am going.... to stay home today ... and I may not venture anywhere all week.

I am reading.... Little Woman by Louisa May Alcott. I found an old 1940 copy of this book at the Goodwill store last week for only $2.29. It is so lovely with watercolor illustrations. I just adore old books.

I am hoping.... to find plenty of salvage materials to build all the little outbuildings we would like to complete for the winter.

I am hearing.... the creak of the front porch swing. One of the chickens must be swinging again. LOL At least I hope its a chicken. Now I'm spooking myself.

Around the house....all is quiet and peaceful. The older boys are engaged in their schoolwork, and Colton is still sleeping. But once he awakes the quiet will end. Colton will talk from the moment he rises until I tuck him in at night ... and then he still will talk until he falls asleep! LOL

One of my favorite things.... the loud clucking of a hen after she lays her egg. I can hear one of them right now. Not only do they deliver to the front door, but they graciously announce the delivery.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week.... to vote with my husband & oldest son who has the privilege of voting in his first election. I'd like to begin working on Christmas presents. I have some lovely red homespun fabrics and would like to make some stockings with an embroidery of this beautiful dove that I found in a book. I will also be cracking pecans and freezing them, and hopefully make a pecan pie from them for my husband who can hardly wait.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

Lea, you always have wonderful things coming from your kitchen! :-)

I'm chuckling at the sight of you in your flannel poodle pj's. I wish I had some! ;-Þ

I am also chuckling at the idea of your 'swinging chicken'.

Colton sounds like my dd, Nikki, when she was younger and still living at home. It would be interesting to see her and Colton together to see who could out talk who! ;-Þ

I love the cat in the birdbath. No bird would dare come near it. ;-)

Hey Lea! I enjoy visiting you so much! I admire that you are working on such a wonderful redwork quilt! You must have so much determination! I have determination too, but I am determined to take as many shortcuts as I can to make things easier! LOL! I know that some things cannot be rushed though.
Have a lovely week and enjoy your comfy home.

I am blessed. Thanks for sharing your day. Your writings are so visual. Your cat looks like the cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland. Cute.

I too adore Little Women, I think I've read it twice and have you seen the movie with Susan Saradon as Marmie? I have the DVD, I think I'll watch it again.

Kitty is so beautiful!!!! So "in charge" of her place there!

Just can't imagine eggs delivered directly to my door each day. That is just too neat!!!!

Loved visiting today! Wish I was cracking pecans with you right now! It would be fun, wouldn't it?
